Sitting properly.

Reach your destination safely.

Correct posture is important for safe and relaxed driving. The modern seats in our Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles can be configured in a number of different ways to ensure that you always find the most comfortable and least stressful seat position. Discover here, and of course also in your vehicle’s Operating Manual, how to sit well and safely.

Find the ideal seat position.

  • 1/5

    Steering wheel.

    - Adjust the steering wheel so that your arms are slightly bent.
    - You should be able to reach the top of the steering wheel with both hands
    - Ensure that the clearance between your ribcage and the steering wheel is at least 25 cm

  • 2/5

    Driver's seat.

    - Adjust the longitudinal position of the driver’s seat so that you can depress all pedals with slightly bent legs
    - Ensure that the clearance between your knee and the dash panel is at least 10 cm
    - Your thighs are positioned on the front edge of the seat, with half a hand’s width to the hollow of your knee

  • 3/5

    Backrest.

    - Position the backrest so that it is vertical with your back fully leaning against the back of the seat
    - Adjust the lumbar support so that you can feel a supporting effect without excessive pressure

  • 4/5

    Head restraint.

    - Adjust the head restraint so that its upper edge preferably forms a line with the upper part of your head
    - Do not push the upper edge of the head restraint lower than eye level
    - Always position the back of your head as closely as possible to the head restraint.

  • 5/5

    Mirror.

    - Adjust the rear view mirror so that it points to the middle of the rear window
    - Adjust the exterior mirrors so that they each point to the rear of your vehicle – each angled to the opposite side

Memory buttons.

Save driver’s seat settings.

Each of the three memory buttons can be assigned to individual settings for the driver’s seat.

Saving driver’s seat settings.
  • Apply handbrake firmly.
  • Shift the gearbox to neutral.
  • Adjust the driver's seat.
  • Press the “SET” button for longer than a second (see Figure).
  • Press the required memory button within approx. 10 seconds. A chime sounds to indicate that the setting has been successfully saved.
Retrieving the driver’s seat settings.
  • Briefly press the relevant memory button within 10 minutes of unlocking the vehicle with the driver’s door open and the ignition off.
  • OR: Press and hold down the relevant memory button until the saved position has been reached, with the driver’s door closed or the ignition on.
Memory function using the remote control key.

The current position of the driver’s seat is re-saved each time the vehicle is locked and is assigned to the remote control key used. When the driver’s door is opened, the driver’s seat automatically assumes the position that has been saved for this remote control key. If two people are using the same vehicle, we therefore recommended that each person always uses “their” remote control key.

The memory function of the remote control key uses its own memory and does not affect settings assigned to a memory button.

Enabling the memory function of the remote control key.
  • Unlock the driver’s door.
  • Press any memory button and hold it down until the end of the activation process.
  • You may need to wait until the seat has moved into the seat position saved on the memory button, holding down the memory button.
  • Within 10 seconds, while still holding down the memory button, simultaneously press the unlocking button on the remote control key. A chime sounds to confirm activation.
Disabling the memory function of the remote control key.
  • Press the “SET” button (see Figure) and hold it down until the end of the deactivation process.
  • Within 10 seconds, while still holding down the memory button, simultaneously press the unlocking button on the remote control key. A chime sounds to confirm deactivation.

Drive more safely.

That’s why it is important to set up the seat correctly.
  • An incorrect seat position in the vehicle can increase the risk of serious or fatal injuries in the event of sudden driving or braking manoeuvres, a collision or accident and should the airbags be triggered.
  • Therefore, before setting off, always correctly adjust the seat, safety belt and head restraint and ensure that all passengers are properly belted in.
Please also note:
  • Only adjust the seats when the vehicle is stationery, otherwise the seats could unexpectedly move during the journey and you could lose control of the vehicle. You might otherwise set up an incorrect seat position.
  • Never drive with the backrest seriously tilted backwards. The further back the backrest is inclined, the greater the risk of injury from incorrect seat belt routing and an incorrect seat position.
  • Never drive with the backrest seriously tilted forwards either. An exploded front airbag can smash the backrest backwards and injure passengers on the rear seats.
Wishing you a good and safe journey!
